Teen Read Week: October 12th-18th

Happy Teen Read Week! TRW is all about reading for the fun of it. Whether you enjoy reading books, magazines, graphic novels, audiobooks, comics, e-books, or any other media, we encourage you to read it this week! I could list studies and statistics about why reading is important, but that is boring. Besides, the top reason for reading is very simple, IT'S FUN!!! There are more books in print than you could read in a lifetime. If you pick up a book and are not enjoying it then just move onto the next one.

Later in the week, I will be unveiling a new collection just for teens- Social Books! Social Books are books that you can write in as a way to share your thoughts about what you are reading. Other teens can then pick up the same book and write their own comments. The goal is to make reading a social activity without having to be in the same room as someone else. I will post once this collection is up so check back!

While Teen Read Week is about reading, not all of our events are reading centered, view our full list of events below.

Teens, come to the Teen Area anytime between 3:00 and 4:30 to read down your fines! You get 50¢ off your fines for each 15 minutes you read. Just check in with Aimee when you get to the Teen Area and she will get you started. Here are the rules:
1- You have to be a teen between the ages of 13 and 17.
2- You can only read down your late fines. This does not apply to missing, damaged, or replacement fees.
3- You have to read in 15 minute increments. If you only read 7 minutes then it doesn't count. If you read 40 minutes you only get $1 of fines reduced.
4- You must be reading at all times. If you start chatting with a friend or using your phone it doesn't count.
5- You must stay in the Teen Area while reading.

Just as a reminder, the Library is Closed Monday for Columbus Day, but that does not mean you can't check out books! We have an ebook catalog through OverDrive where you can check out and read books anywhere you have the Internet. Get the app for your tablet or smart phone to read/listen to books. If you have an e-reader then go to the catalog where you can transfer books to your Kindle, Nook, or other device.
