How to Volunteer

Considering volunteering some of your time?! We've got just the place. Whether you're interested in fulfilling community service hours or just interested in helping out, the library offers a variety of opportunities for teens. If you have an idea for a project you'd like to complete, please contact Megan at mcoffey@minlib.net or call (781) 316-3204 or find us on GiveBackTime.

To spark your interest, we're always looking for volunteers to help with the following:

Creativity and Artwork - Want to help the Teen Area look better? The library is looking for you! We're always in need of help to create bulletin boards, book displays, and signs for the teen area. Most importantly, we could use more consistent and cool chalk art!

Book/Movie/TV Show/Video Game Reviewers - Whether you're interested in writing or vlogging, we could use some media recommendations written by and created for teens. HERE are a few examples written by a teen volunteer, Needle. You could also feel free to make a quick video to demonstrate how you felt about a book, movie, TV show, or video game!

Teen Area Specialists -The Teen Area can become pretty messy and dirty from constant use. If you enjoy hanging in the Teen Area and want to make it your goal to keep it clean and organized, this opportunity is for you! This project would include dusting, cleaning shelves, cleaning tables, shelving books, straightening shelves of books, and keeping book displays filled.

Book Sale Help - The Friends of the Library look for volunteers to help with their bi-annual book sales. One book sale occurs on Town Day weekend in September, and the other happens in March. The Friends of the Library always are looking for volunteers to help with sorting books as well as setting up and breaking down the Community Room on the lower level of Robbins Library. Please contact Amy McElroy at ae65@verizon.net or go to the Friends of Robbins Library GiveBackTime page to apply for present opportunities.

Tech Help - As a public library, we serve a wide variety of people with different information needs. One of those needs is basic technology help. This would include helping others to print, scan, and save documents as well as use social media and the internet to meet their needs.

Social Media Experts - Are you a dynamo on multiple social media platforms? Looking for a new profile to takeover? Takeover our @robbinslibraryteens Instagram and our teen blog for the week! The only requirement, post once a day about library related things, and of course, keeping it appropriate for all viewers.

Create & Host a Teen Event - Are you an expert in a certain subject or fandom? Create and carry out an event for other teens! Generally, most of our programs are for grades 6 to 12, and must be appropriate. If you've got an idea, shoot me an email. I'd love to hear what you're dreaming of hosting! This could be a craft, a fandom, or even an afternoon of board games!

If any of these opportunities sound interesting to you, please email me, Megan, Teen Services Librarian at mcoffey@minlib.net or find our GiveBackTime profile to find opportunities. If you connect with us there, we're sure to find you something.

*A quick note on volunteering: All volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and will need to complete a CORI form and check before starting. Please click HERE for the form, and provide me with a school ID or birth certificate to complete the process. It should take about a week to process at the Town Hall.
