Plan your week!

It is Christmas week and the library will have abnormal hours! Basically, both libraries are closed Thursday, December 24 and Friday, December 25. I doubt any of that is too surprising!

If you are looking for some seasonal reads, there is a display in the Teen Area now. I can't guarantee there will be many more books left on Wednesday but there are plenty as I type this!

If you are going on vacation then it is the perfect time to load your tablet with ebooks. Click here to browse our OverDrive catalog. In case you were wondering, there is an app for that.

Miyazaki Day!!!!!!!!!!

According to Google translate, this means "Your face is as beautiful as a hemorrhoid." (Thanks, John Green!). So at least I'm aware of my very poor Japanese. Why am I writing things in Japanese?

Oh, Praise He

On January 9, 2016 (snow date January 13), the Robbins library will hold its very first Miyazaki day for grades 6+ in the Robbins library community room (the LLR button in the elevator)! And what does a Miyazaki day consist of, you may ask? Well I'll tell you, like-minded nerd!

First off, you cannot have a Miyazaki day without a Miyazaki movie. This event will be showing two of his movies. The first is The Cat Returns. It's a very charming movie that I believe doesn't get enough credit. Also, CATS!!!!!!!!!!

And the next movie we are showing is...

...are you ready.... we go...

MY NEIGHBOR TOTORO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, we've got Totoro, baby! Totoro is love, Totoro is life.

But that is not all we are offering, oh no! This event is costume friendly, so you may wear a Miyazaki-themed costume to the movie screenings. If you don't, that's fine; we will not judge you. However, if you don't wear a costume, you might not win a prize.
Oh yes, my friend, we're holding a Miyazaki costume contest! Participants will walk down a catwalk (possibly to the tune of Ponyo) and will be voted on a by council of peers. Winners will get to choose which kind of prize they want.
      They will be:
  • A stuffed Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro

  • A stuffed mouse-baby from Spirited Away

  • A stuffed Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service

  • Possibly a gift card to somewhere, we're still figuring that out

We also have

So if you are coming, you need to register for this the event, so we have enough food. Please go to this link
and sign up. You do not need to bring a ticket.

I hope a lot of people can come, and I want them to have fun. So if this interests you, please come! I hope to see you Miyazaki fans there!
